If you’ve ever experienced a bee sting, then you know that it can feel as though you have been stabbed by glass. It’s amazing how a small insect can cause such pain, or for some people, cause a serious allergic reaction. For most people though, a bee sting can be easily treated using items that you may already have on hand. Keep reading for home remedies to treat a bee sting.
Baking Soda
This is an easy effective way to ease the pain of a sting. Simply mix baking soda and water and apply a thick layer to the area. You should immediately begin to feel relief. Let it sit for about 15 minutes- it will harden. You may need to reapply a few times to help the swelling go down.
Honey
Another easy way to treat a sting is to apply a small amount of honey to the wound. Leave on the area for about an hour. You may want to cover it loosely with a bandage so nothing sticks to the honey. This remedy may also help to relieve burning and itching as well.
Wet Aspirin
Wetting an aspirin tablet can help to reduce swelling and redness of a sting.
Toothpaste
Applying a small dab of toothpaste may help cool the affected area. It is unclear as to why, but it may be that the alkaline neutralizes the venom.
Herbal Supplements
There are several herbal treatments that you may wish to try that could prove helpful. Aloe vera is a wonderful salve that is used for treating irritated skin. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and can help to soothe the sting. Lavender essential oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and will therefore help reduce swelling.
